This day is marked on the 8th Mac of every calendar year since a century ago, as IWD (International Women Day). It is on this very specially dedicated day that every single effort of women in economic, political and social achievements are celebrated.
After a century of having this day to pay respect and also bringing the awareness about how we see and treat women we still see a lot of problems happening around the world causing women too feel vulnerable and helpless. Domestic abuse, sexual issues (including discrimination, harassment, violation etc), abortion, social status, legal rights and protections etc are amongst the issues that still require a lot of work.
On this day, different countries/places are having their own local NGOs and/or Government to help bring a little bit more of attention on showing recognition and respecting this equally important gender, I have participated a very interesting and touching performance in Gurney Plaza.
Art piece choreographed by Aida Redza, shows how women strive to fulfill not only their role but also the expectations of people, culture & society and neglecting/not having any chance to care for themselves yet still never being treated as the way they deserve.
I got this aching and sour feeling arouse from my heart when I see how a woman is not being appreciated even she had dedicated all her life and energy for the sake of everybody else but herself.
I hope more men and women are becoming aware of the importance of every single person in this world, regardless of gender, deserves the equality in fair treatment. I hope we people can soon (not like the past 100 years) realize: it is through respect we can make this world a better place.

u r absolutely right.. i think sometimes we forget and get sucked into the prejudiced view of the society that we forget the fundamental value - respect.. something so simple but yet so difficult to get..
that's probably why we need to be reminded constantly.
don't you think so?
